Here is a 2 day 1 night Irumalachikallu trek with Urumbikkara starting from Alleppey/Kottyam. Yendiyar is the base camp of the trek from where you will be easily connected to located at a height of about 1395 meters.

Irumalachikallu trek trek would amuse you definitely, for it is the unspoiled off beat track with enthralling sights around it and then you will also be getting the mind-blowing sunset views from Urumbikkara Top Station on the way. Urumbikkara-Irumallachi Kallu as a destination is reverberating, because of the largely vivacious patches of Cardamom,Coffee,Tea  plantations and rhododendron are quite alluring to watch. From 1395 meters height above sea level, one will be entertained by the visibility of Sahayadri mount

ain ranges pretty closer.

This trek is comparatively easy making it suitable for beginners and also for children. Yet, advanced trekkers would also find it quite interesting passing by the thick green forests and watching the Mist-clad peaks at the distance. Normal fitness is only necessity to do this trek and those who love nature deeply would get a feast to their eyes with this closer to nature trek and the sights will be varying depending on the season you choose.

About the destination:

Urumbikkara – Irumallachi hills is located in the south part of idukki district between vagamon and kuttikkanam .It lies at an attitude of 3500 – 4500 ft, above sea level and is graduated by dense wood on either side.Throught the view of irumalachikallu hills and valley,The way to yenthiyar and view from webily,the off-road way with muddy and Rocky paths and ride by Jeep’s all through the way both side are green and the path is covered with  trees.

A day to wander aimlessly, to take bath in the streams, make a tent on the hill tops, to feel the rain and the misty clouds, to sleep watching the stars

As we begin to climb upward through the rough roads, the beautiful Yenthiyar– Kootikkal valley could be seen below like an impressionist painting. The light drizzle and the soothing breeze will accompany the way to Urumbikkara. The Pappani waterfalls, which meander through the Jet  black rocks, beckon you to enjoy its mesmerizing charm .

Urumbikkara was once laden with lush green tea plantations and rubber estates run by the Britisher J.J Murphy,the father of Rubber Plantation in Kerala . An abandoned tea factory evokes the memories of its colonial past, and the ignored tea plantations.
The real owner of around 1,600 acres of land at Urumbikkara was in fact a Malayali named Raman who purchased the land from Royal family of Poonjar.

It was a delight to see the valley below in the night illumination with Star lit Sky,you could see three to four towns like Yenthayar, Kanjirapalli, Mundakkayam, Koottikkal etc, from the Verandah of Bungalow.

Itinerary

Day 1 –Alleppey/Kottyam – Urumbikara(1395m) (Drive / 2.5 – 3 hrs)

After your arrival at the Alleppey/Kottayam railway station at 7 in the morning, you will begin the drive along the hill towns of Kanjirapally,Mundakayam arriving at Yenthiyar.From there you will transferred on four wheel drive Jeeps which takes about 45 Minutes we reached the Majestic Urumbikkara Bungalow.In the evening, you will be leaving for a short hike by the side of the plantation resort and nearby locations.Overnight in the Plantation Bungalow rooms.

Day 2 – Urumbikara(1350m) – Irumalachi Kallu(1650m) (Drive / 1. 5 hrs ) ( Trek / 3 hrs)

The journey for the day starts the trek to Irumalachi  Rock with a transfer  by Jeep from Bungalow to the Cardamom Processing centre which is the  Base of Trek. Trek approach is steady and gentle with few stops to have the feeling of the wonderful stretch with so good Air; will have some Sandwiches and fruits which  will console some of the starving souls.

You can extent the trek to MadammaKulam. From here, you will be retracing your steps back to Urumbikara, and then drive back to Kottayam/Alleppey Via Yenthiyar.
